Now that the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Phase II regulations have become finalized, municipalities are looking for more aesthetically pleasing and cost effective best management practices to reduce and eliminate sediment transportation from construction sites. Reinforced vegetation has become one of the preferred solutions for many engineers. Since the early 1990's, EC-DESIGN~(R) has assisted with the design of reinforcedgrass waterways and slopes. The latest version of EC-DESIGN 2000 has retained the stateof-the-practice procedures modeled after the Federal Highway Administration's Hydraulic Engineering Circular No. 15 (HEC-15) and the USDA's Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE). Updated features allow designers to: Analyze several types of linings for each channel; Estimate material and installation costs; Easily write detailed and concise product specifications; Include CAD details into their standard drawings; Provide contractors with installation guidelines; Review product literature, case studies, and fact sheets; Obtain fixes and updates via a "Live Update" button. By incorporating state-of-the-practice procedures, Windows~(R) formatting, and web technology, EC-DESIGN 2000 is the most comprehensive and versatile stormwater management and erosion control design package available. This paper outlines the design procedures and methodology used in EC-DESIGN 2000 version 2.0 for rolled erosion control products (RECPs) in channels and on slopes.
