This paper describes the principles of color corrections used in the new Heidelberg scan, color management and image processing application Newcolor 7000. At present Newcolor runs on PC under the operating systems Windows NT and Windows 2000 (and with the simpler Newcolor 5000 also under Windows 98). In the beginning of 2002 it will also be available on Macintosh under the operating system Mac OS X. The current Macintosh-based Heidelberg scan, color management and image processing application Lino-Color was designed with CIELab as the main and center color space (Tat 99, Hom 00, Kra 01). The CMYK color corrections were added later on. While Newcolor maintains CIELab as an important pillar it was conceived for operation and color corrections in all three color spaces CIELab, CMYK and RGB. Newcolor combines the color correction technology of LinoColor and the old DC3000 scan application with the current color management technology. All color corrections in all color spaces are based on ICC (International Color Consortium)-profiles.
