In recent years high-pressure roller presses have increasingly been employed in the comminution of cement clinker. A weak point of these presses often was the low availability due to high wear. Against this background, a novel wear-protection concept has been introduced under the name of HEXADUR~R providing very hard, wear-resistant surfaces based on an ingenious combination of different materials and their well thought-out geometric arrangement in the built-up surface. In the context of basic considerations of the wear system a new surface-building concept has been presented. Initial application experience gathered in cement mills and ore grinding plants has indicated that the wear behavior is much better than that of rollers provided with any other hardfacing. The basic technology of HEXADUR~R has also a market potential in critical briquetting and compacting applications.
