In some situations the most convenient method of determining the mean convective heat flux from a body in a fluid stream is by measuring the velocity and temperature distributions in the wake downstream of the body and then determining the heat flux by considering the overall enthalpy change in the flow around the body. For example, consider the control volume shown in Fig. 1 about a body over which the flow can be assumed to be two-dimensional.
