The failure rate of the cable network of Prazska energetika, a.s. has been decreasing for several years especially because of the intensive corporate construction policy. At the moment, an opportunity to reduce the failure rate by constructing new cable lines is ending, and the regime of economical investments has started. In order to ensure the continuation of the recent positive trend of reducing the cable network failure rate it is necessary to adopt a new complex approach including the following items: 1. Continue to perform analyses of defective cables, to monitor and analyse individual failures. 2. Use the potential of diagnostic methods to identify the cable condition and to detect which cables or cable parts are defective, causing failures, and needing replacement. 3. Use new statistical methods to perform analyses of the whole cable network, and to detect which cables or a type of cable accessories are defective, causing failures and needing replacement. All these activities should serve for obtaining as reasonable values as possible in order to make decisions on cable servicing or total replacement.
