Continuous moisture management systems utilising molecular sponge materials appear to offer the prospect of extending the life of the transformer insulation by slowing down the ageing effects that are associated with moisture contamination. Work is continuing on this topic but results obtained to date from transformers in service indicate that the theory is matched in practise. Continuous moisture management could herald a new era in Transformer maintenance and life extension methods.
