A novel integrated magnetic structure was proposed to improve the performance of high-input voltage regulator modules (VRMs) by significantly reducing the leakage inductance of magnetics. Another benefits of using the proposed structure include reduced core loss, simplified manufacture process and reduction of the primary current ripple. As a result, the size and cost of VRMs could be reduced greatly. The concept was demonstrated on a push-pull forward VRM, which delivers power from a 48-V input to a 1.2-1.5 V/70 A microprocessor load.
