A Hybrid System for Diagnosis of Dementia

Alzheimer's disease is emerging as one of the major health issues of the 21st Century. Treatment is most effective when given early in the disease, but early diagnosis remains problematic. In the work described here, a decision support system for differentiation of Alzheimer's disease from other types of dementia is outlined. The objective of the system is to assist in early diagnosis. It relies on the combination of multiple types of data, including clinical parameters, cognitive evaluation, family history, genetic results, functional imaging, and electroencephalogram analysis. The analysis of the electroencephalogram is based on new chaotic methods developed by the authors.
