Ergonomic challenges in a modern endodontic dental practice and the OSHA ergonomics standard

The demands of the clinical practice of dentistry present some significant ergonomic challenges to the practitioner. The ergonomic risk factors enumerated and identified by the OSHA ergonomics standard are present to a significant degree in the practice of the dental specialty of endodontics (root canal specialists). Risk factors present in a typical endodontic practice are identified and discussed. Potential corrective actions are identified and evaluated. Implications for the inspection of dental practices by OSHA for compliance with the ergonomics standard are discussed.
