Used Grease Monitoring of Large Slewing Bearing in Port Machinery

Large slewing bearing is an important part for some port machineries. This paper outlines the application of used grease monitoring to slewing bearing in ship loaders and stacking cranes. Grease samples taken from five above machineries were analyzed with ferrography and AES methods. Test showed that slewing bearing of SL-11 ship loader were under abnormal wear condition. Inspection indicated that the rolling elements of this bearing were either worn severely or broken down. Maintenance were carried out on-site, then this ship loader has operated normally.
