Dielectric and piezoelectric properties of PMN-PT single crystals grown by Bridgman method

Samples were cut from boules (/spl phi/40/spl times/80mm) of Pb(Mg/sub 1/3/Nb/sub 2/3/)O/sub 3/-PbTiO/sub 3/ (PMN-PT) grown by a modified Bridgman method. The composition dependence trends of piezoelectric constant d/sub 33/ and coupling factor k/sub t/, are given. For the composition PMN/PT=67/33, /spl epsiv//spl sim/5000, tg /spl delta/ 1%, d/sub 33//spl sim/2000 pC/N, k/sub t//spl sim/0.6-0.62, k/sub 33//spl sim/0.90-0.94 were achieved. Aging and d/sub 33/ fluctuations were also briefly discussed. The above features and the feasibility of enlargements in crystal size and production scale indicate that PMN-PT single crystals are promising candidates for actuators and transducers of the new generation.
