First of all, I should like to thank Dr. Peter Baron, Executive Director of the International Sugar Organisation, for kindly inviting me to this 10th International Seminar "Movers and Shakers - Their Impact on the World Sweeteners Market", to share ideas and talk about the situation of the sugar sector and the involvement of our countries in the world sugar market. In this respect Cuba, a sugar-producing nation by tradition, plays an important role, as one of the world's leading sugar-producing countries as well as one of the principal sugar-trading countries at international level.
