REAL TIME PROCESS MANAGEMENT IN IRON/STEEL OPERATIONS

Applying the latest information technologies in iron and steel complexes has become a serious challenge to management and technical teams. Methods are being developed to expand the use of plant information and its history to support revenue improvement, cost reduction, adherence to production constraints, adherence to process limits, troubleshooting, continuous improvement and innovation by plant personnel. The universal data server for integration of plant data and the web enabled component desktop are the base-working tools to support the access and manipulation of process information, metallurgical quality data and equipment data. Collaboration between staff and operations groups is encouraged by continuous presentation of an overall plant effectiveness index based on losses due to equipment availability, production and product quality. Connectivity between metallurgical complexes results in enhanced coordination of the different units, which is a necessity in today's highly competitive market.
