The shape rolling process is fully three-dimensional. The material flow is complex and the flow directions are hard to determine without advanced numerical modelling. The memory requirements of the presented solution are 150 times lower and the computation time is 100 times shorter in comparison with fully 3D models. The model is able to give information, which cannot be reached with traditional methods. It can be also used for high temperature simulation of direct rolling of steel products coming from continuous casting. In such a case, the soft, partially fluid core and the hard solid shell can be considered as two different materials. The presented paper has shown that computer simulation of such components is possible using the proposed model.
