Computing Ripple Effect Automatically

Software measurement is now a mature field, there are thousands of measures many of which are automated. This paper describes the ripple effect measure and REST (Ripple Effect and Stability Tool) a software tool produced to compute it. Ripple effect measurement is based on the effect that a change to a single variable within a program will have on the rest of a program. It determines the scope of the change and thus provides a measure of the program's complexity.
