Owing to its simple process and less toxicity, the synthesis of dimethyl carbonate (DMC) via the transesterification between propylene- carbonate (PC) and methanol (MeOH) is considered to be the most attractively alternative route. In this paper, the transesterification catalyzed by the solid base is discussed. The effects of potassium hydroxide as active ingredient on different kind of supports, as well as preparing and reaction conditions, have been investigated. The yield of DMC is 38.2%, and the conversion of PC is 42.0% when KOH/ZnO is used as the catalyst.
