With development of continuous casting process, the use of higher quality coating materials in tundish and more heats in casting sequences are demanded. Usually magnesia insulating materials are used as tundish spray mixes, which their properties are influenced by many factors. One of the most effective factors is particle size distribution. In this study, influence of particle size distribution on major physical properties, such as strength at different temperatures are investigated. Results are shown that spalling and slag penetration resistance, adhesion behaviour, flowability, deskulling and defects were improved by selecting a suitable particle size distribution.
