In this paper we use a state-dependant Markov chain to model TCP at bottleneck routers with active queue management (AQM) support. Unlike some previous work based on Markovian models of TCP, our model is quite simple while captures the dynamical behaviors of the AQM-TCP joint system. As an application, we model and solve where Droptail, a traditional non-active queue management scheme, is used and RED is used as AQM policy. Our results show excellent agreement with those of similar networks simulated using well-known ns simulator. Simulation results also show the superiority of our model over one recently developed in [10].
