New Resins For UV Curable Powder Coatings - Wood Applications

UV Powder technology brings a number of significant advantages to the coating process such as low temperature requirements, short cure time, low energy consumption, no VOC/toxicity concerns, optimal material use. If these advantages are to be fully realised then the availability of new resins and different types of finishes will play a decisive role in the future success of this new coating technology. UCB has recently developed some new resins for UV powder coatings for wood based substrates, in particular for Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF) but also for some types of natural hardwood. Different types of finish are possible and the resultant coatings exhibit a combination of unique properties. The performance and the possibilities of these new systems are discussed during the presentation.
