Role of producers of electric power generated from renewable energy sources on the internal electricity market

For the purpose of having the environment and climate protected, an increased generation of electric power from renewable energy sources and an improved efficiency in fossil fuel combustion are being required on the level of the European Union (EU). The position of power producers from renewables in the current free market environment is quite difficu their investments not being subsidised, they cannot compete with other classic power producers. This is the reason why national policies of the majority of EU countries provide support for electric power generation from renewables, waste and cogeneration (CHP). By assuring guaranteed electricity sale, favourable purchase prices and eventually also by some other benefits, this act is strongly believed to contribute to an increase in the number of dispersed generation (DG) units. The aim of this paper is to pay attention to some of the technical and economical issues accompanying the increase in the number of DG.
