The development of immobilized-cell systems, using isolated soil bacteria able to degrade different organic pollutants, could solve some of the problems showed by continuous fermentation processes. The use of adsorbed viable cells on solid supports presents advantages for the design of industrial bioreactors. Progress in the study of the factors involved in the performance of the proposed system and modeling will allow implementation in a variety of treatment and recycled water processes. These processes involve adsorption-desorption and diffusion phenomena of particles suspended in a liquid that form a dynamic system. Cellular automata can model natural processes like adsorption-desorption and diffusion on many different levels of detail; in particular, they are useful in modeling dynamic systems to describe the global performance in terms of local interactions using different conditions.
