Geological and mineralogical aspects of the Skorpion non-sulphide zinc deposit, Namibia

The Skorpion zinc deposit, which is situated in the southern part of Namibia, is characterised by its non-sulphide ore paragenesis. The ore-mineral assemblage is hosted by Late Proterozoic clastic meta-sediments, which have been overprinted by greenschist metamorphism. Sauconite, hemimorphite and smith-sonite make up the main ore minerals. XRF and ICP analyses show significantly different distribution patterns of major, trace and RE elements in both, ores and wall rocks.
