摘要

Within the art restoration process, laboratory investigations of material fragments are made to identify pigments and binding media used in the original painting and to describe the layer stratigraphy on cross-sections, what is the factor important for recognizing previous re-paints and choosing a suitable restoration procedure. Materials research on these rare, small and heterogeneous samples requires instrumental non-destructive techniques to be used. We have found microscopical methods as the most suitable to analyse the morphology, texture, colour, fluorescence in UV light and chemical composition involving the basic identification of inorganic components.
