When I sat down some weeks ago to make notes for this speech I saw that the AJM Conference flyer advertised that I would be speaking about the 'post consolidation outlook for Rio Tinto'. The more I though about it, the more it seemed to me that such a title was too narrow. I know that the acquisition of North's iron ore assets by Rio Tinto Iron Ore was, and remains, of interest to all in our industry-and I will be talking about it. But the future of Rio Tinto's iron ore business is only understandable when the North acquisition is put into its proper context.
