Analysis of building energy conservation potential in reducing environmental impact

Many research projects have been conducted to identify energy conservation potential in the world. In New Zealand (NZ), research on these aspects is considerable, but the commercial and institutional building energy conservation potential seems to have received a lack of noticeable attention. Energy conservation potential can be considered form tow sides: a) preventing wasteful use of energy, and b) increasing the efficiency of energy systems and equipment. In this paper a concept of " Effective Energy Efficiency" (EFE) is proposed for analyzing this potential. Simulated data and investigated values for energy performance in an existing tertiary library and some modeled libraries are illustrated in the paper. Further discussion indicates that from energy savings a reduction of environmental impact would be significant.
