Use of Original Fluoroacrylates as Surface Modifiers

New fluorinated acrylates were synthesized and used as surface modifiers in UV curable formulations containing hydrogenated acrylates. They caused a dramatic change in the surface properties of the films without affecting the curing conditions and the bulk properties. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy was used to show migration of the perfluorinated group to the extreme surface of the films. The relationship between the structure of the monomers and the surface properties of the UV-cured films will be discussed.
