摘要

The hydrology of a system and land use both influenced the distribution of phosphorus (P). The interaction between high P and hydrological active areas found in this study were remarkable. Water flow provides the mechanism for P transport. Phosphorus follows the flow paths of water and accumulates where the moisture does. Interflow, in particular, appears to play a s ignificant role in P distribution on the landscape. This suggests that the loss of P from agricultural lands to nearby stream systems or water bodies can be reduced by binding the P in extremely active hydrological flow paths. When the hydrology of a system becomes inactive, the distribution of P is preserved, leaving a record of previous hydrological activity. More research is needed in other regions to examine if the interaction of hydrology and P movement holds.
