Charging method of EV valve-regulated lead-acid battery was evaluated for prolonging cycle life and enhancing energy efficiency by testing about 10kWh battery systems. Multi-step constant-current method was proposed to prolong a cycle life and shorten charging time. Each step was regulated by low voltage in order to prevent batteries from being overheated and overcharged. Multi-step constant-current charging completed in about five hors and prolonged cycle life by 30%. And decrease of amount of overcharge capacity by the High-Energy-Efficiency Charging (HEEC) operation enhanced energy efficiency by 10% and prolonged cycle life by 30%.
