MANAGEMENT OF CROWN CHOKING DISEASE OF COCONUT (COCOSNUCIFERA L.)

Crown choking is a serious malady affecting coconut palms all over the world. Relationship of boron deficiency with this disease is reported. A field study was conducted at C.RC.R.1, (RS), Kayangulam, Kerala, India in adult and coconut seedlings to study the effect of Boron supplementation in crown choking and to find out the optimum amount of Boron required by the affected palms for effecting recovery. Application of 500 and 300g Borax (Na_2B_4O_7.10H_2O) per palm per year for adult and seedlings respectively in two split application was found effective in curing the disease.
