DIAGNOSTIC AND TREATMENT CHALLENGES IN SMALL MAMMAL MEDICINE

Diagnosing and managing disease problems in small pet mammals can be challenging for several reasons The lack of available testing procedures; surgical and anesthetic risk factors; difficulties in interpreting results of radiography ultrasonography and laboratory tests; the stress response of the animal; and financial concerns are among the factors that must be considered when dealing with these animals. Often a definitive diagnosis cannot be made, and conservative therapy is the most prudent treatment option.
