The Method for Reducing the Weight of a Washer Drum

The vibration of rotating system comes from unbalance of rotor. In case of drum washer, this kind of vibration is caused by unbalance of the lumped clothes and the heavy weight is added to reduce it. This additional weight increases the total weight and the cost of the product and occupies some volume in it. In this study, to reduce this weight, we suggested some methods using a liquid balancer, a water chamber and new cabinet design. For design of a liquid balancer, theoretical modeling and Taguchi Method are used. The original set has about 14kgs of additional weight, and the designed liquid balancer has about 1.6 liters by inner volume. In the case of adopting it to the front side of the inner tub, we could reduce 8kgs of the additional weight. Furthermore, using the water chamber filled with water pumped out after every courses, we could reduce by about 5 kgs of the additional weight. As a result, adopting these methods, we could reduce by about 11 kgs of set weight from 70kgs to 59kgs totally. And we showed some possibilitties in reducing the cabinet weight through new cabinet design which was simulated by ANSYS and DADS.
