This paper relates to recent developments in microwave ovens, including an innovative magnetron-driving power supply. Our newly developed inverter power supply was realized by using soft switching technology and IGBTs. The new high frequency inverter power supply has the capability of providing multiple power levels, allowing more finely tuned control of microwave energy delivery. Various types of food can thus be warmed or cooked without overheating their surfaces or Projections. Development of this new inverter power supply also enables miniaturization of the power supply components, resulting in greater cooking space inside the oven. The improved circuit design of the inverter power supply and its advantages with respect to defrosting and cooking are described in this paper.
