Cabling Systems for XDSL Services in Both Residential and Business Buildings

This paper presents the cabling systems defined by France Telecom for offering xDSL services in residential and business environments. The first part of the paper will describe the residential aspects with the definition of a new cabling system for new buildings, able to offer several narrowband and broadband interfaces to users in apartments, creating a lasting installation and significant mobility. The second part deals with broadband services to business customers. High performance cabling systems have to be defined with regard to access technology (such as ADSL) and the bit rate supplied (several dozen Mbits/s) to the existing customer LAN.
