Geoecological Case Studies in Selected Latin-American Ecosystems

Research projects on the dynamics of South America ecosystems were realized in close cooperation between the Institute of Soil Science in Bayreuth and Latin American scientists. This article Bayreuth and Latin American scientists. This article summarizes seven current geoecological projects in Argentina Brazil and Ecuador. In the center of the research work are the climate history of the Argentina Pampa, the fertility of the Red Indian Black Earth, the interactions between different tree species in mixed tree plantations in the Amazon region, the influence of land use on water and nutrient availability for plants, the impact of the intensive use of pesticies in the Brazilian savanna, as well as the water and nutrient fluxes in the montane forests of Ecuador.
