Application of universal hydrophilic matrix (UHM) for transdermal drug delivery systems (TDDS) containing nonsteroidal antiinflamatory drug (NSAID) diclofenac or its salts.

UHM was developed by some of us (1). It has been used in the design of about ten TDDS. Some of them is now registered in Russia (2) as drugs. UHM may be used for the preparation of TDDS involving drugs of very different chemical structure. Many NSAIDs are acids or their salts. In the previous communication (3) we described Indomethacin - containing TDDS, and now we report the design of TDDSs involving most popular NSAID -Diclofenac in acidic or salt form. In ointments the drug may used to short-term treatment, but it is not optimal for long-term treatment or chronic diseases such as artritis.
