The interpretation of data plays a critical role in present day nondestructive evaluation (NDE) techniques. This need for visualization technology arises because systems can scan at a faster rate and at a higher resolution than was possible in even the recent past. As a result a very large number of data points are generated and must be efficiently interpreted. To perform this interpretation either automatic detection methods or effective visualization techniques must be developed and implemented. While extensive work has considered automatic detection methods and image segmentation techniques, less effort has been devoted to visualization efforts. Visualization methods may have the potential to make it possible for operators with modest training requirements to confidently interpret large data sets.
