The Use of Nebuiization in Avian Respiratory Disease

Nebuiization is widely used in the therapy of avian respiratory disease. Many different methods are used according to whether single birds or whole flocks are being treated and according to clinician choice. However, it is evident that there is littlein the published literature as to the aims of nebulization therapy or its efficacy in birds. Much appears to be based on mammalian medicine yet there are huge differences in respiratory anatomy and physiology between birds and mammals. This paper reviews the published literature on the principles and practice of nebulization with the aim of debunking some established "myths" and establishing whether nebulization is a rational therapy in these species and, if so, which practices may appear to be best or which may require further evaluation.
