The Casting-Rolling Plant of Thyssen Krupp Stahl AG

On 2~(nd) April 1999 Thyssen Krupp Stahl AG commissioned its new casting-rolling or CSP plant on schedule. Since then roughly 1.1 million t hot strip have been produced up to the end of August 2000. The production in August 2000 amounted to 140.000 t. By the end of the year the run-up phase is to be completed, with 167.000 t/ month being reached. The main objective of the investment was the utilisation of the available additional converter steel capacity of one of the two BOF steel making plants at the Duisburg location. With the new plant and the three permanently available hot strip mills in Duisburg and Bochum, Thyssen krupp Stahl AG now has an annual capacity totalling 14.6 million tons of hot wide strip at its disposal. In the end, the possible product innovations, together with high product quality, were the determining factors for this courageous step into the future. Thus it is possible with this advanced new technology to produce hot rolled strip with until now unconceivably small scatter of geometry and properties and with smallest final thicknesses.
