SAFETY MONITORING AND CONTROL OF DAMS OWNED BY DISTRIBUTION COMPANIES OF EDP - ELECTRICIDADE DE PORTUGAL, S.A. GROUP. TECHNICAL AND ORGANIZATIONAL ASPECTS

The EDP Group -Electricidade de Portugal - which is composed of various firms that produce, transport and distribute electricity in Portugal, owns forty two dams that fall under the scope of the Portuguese Dam Regulations (R.S.B.), published in 1990. The subject of this paper is to present the activities related with the Structural Safety Control of fifteen dams that belong to the production firms owned by the three distribution companies of the EDP Group. The report describes the items related with the definition of the strategy to adapt the works to the R.S.B., the characterisation of the present situation and the general activities of dam observation, including the preparation of the Structural Behaviour Reports and the automation of the monitoring systems.
