The Berkley-Dighton bridge spans over the Tarnton River, connecting the towns of Berkley and Dighton,Massachusetts.Built in 1896,this four span bridge consists of three simple plate girder approach spans and a through-truss rim-bearing swing span.Time and the elements have taken their toll on this 100 year old swing bridge as evdenced by the heavy deterioration and damaged condition of the bridge components, and by the many maintenance repairs which have been conducted ower the years to alleviate some of the problems on the bridge. The bridge was previously rehabilitated in the 1930's and then again in 1973,but the effects of the harsh Northeastern winters resulted in a state of disrepair which initiated this latest rehabilitation effort.
