In the new millennium, personal transportation needs innovative urban busses to reduce pollution, costs and to improve efficiency, comfort, flexibility, vehicle lay out and service offered to passengers. The main unique feature of urban vehicles time versus speed diagram is a considerable discontinuity while primary energy source converters (Diesel engine, fuel cells, etc.) have to work nearly constantly to gain the best performance. The research aim is to define a modular, low cost urban bus, electric powered by a motorised rear axle, which has to comply with the target mentioned above and also arranged to a different electric system configurations: electric, hybrid series, Diesel electric, trolley, hybrid series whit super capacitors, fuel cells, etc.. The conclusion of this research is that it is possible to develop an innovative urban bus, electric powered by a motorised rear axle with following features: Costs according to market competition and reduced in comparison with the today price of electric powered busses. A lay out that is not bound by rear axle, transmission shaft, automatic gear box and Diesel engine position, in order to be optimised in urban transport. A different electric system configuration (electric, hybrid, Diesel electric, trolley at the present, fuel cells and super capacitors for the future) which, depending on choice and road profile, may increase efficiency and reduce pollution. High flexibility in its use (range, power, average speed) depending on the chosen electric system and during its production and configuration (9m, 10,5m, 12m, articulated bus 18m, electric system configuration).
