The in situ identification of pigments on assyrian frescos by Raman microscopy: an authentication issue

Raman microscopy is now an established technique for the examination of materials used in works of art and archaeological argefacts [1]. Non-destructive and rapid, it provides useful information to the historian and the conservator. In particular, reasonable databases of natural pigments and minerals now exist [2,3], complementary in the identification of pigments to aid authentication and dating as well as conservation.
