Metal colloids are very frequently employed active surfaces in surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) due to simple an dinexpensive way of preparation. On the other hand, SERS spectral measurements on jmetal colloids are strongly affected by several factors, among them by colloid aggregation induced mostly by the adsorbate itself. It was shown that the effect of the aggregate size on SERS activity and SERS spectra can be very importnat~(1).
