In contrast to electrochemically roughend metallic electrodes or aggregated colloids (mainly gold, silver and copper), commonly used in Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS), regular metallic gratings with nanometer scale structures represent ideal substrats for better understanding the mechanisms involved inthe SERS effect.
