Software Architecture is emerging as one of the primary research areas in software engineering. The point of software architecture, and the source of its primary effect on software engineering, is that it is useful to separate the basic structural aspects fo a software system (expressed in terms of its prescribed components and the formal constraints on those components and the way they relate to each other) from the design issues of algorithms and data structures.
