Using a reference framework for software systems research

摘要

Software systems research is influenced by a number of factors, such as the complexity of the applications and the software requirements for them, and the continuous change in software system technologies for developing and implementing these systems. The paper presents a research framework for a software systems research program, OOISEE, focusing on object-orientation, that was at the graduate level in the field of computer and information systems. The framework consists of a set of interrelated reference models to structure research issues, and a research methodology. The elements of the research framework form part of the knowledge base of the research program, and was shared by all participant of the program. The knowledge base was continuously updated and extended as the deliverables of the investigations were interpreted and analyzed. The contributions of projects supervised according the framework are summarized. This approach contributes to a defined research process for software system research.
