The influence of a rapid and conventional thermal treatment on multicrystalline silicon produced by ElecrtroMagnetic Casting process (EMC) Sitix is investigated for the first time. We have studied the effect of bifaciales diffusion of phosphorus in this multicrystalline silicon on the minority carrier lifetime as measured by the photoconductivity decay technique. The diffusion is carried out by using a tungsten lamps furnace (Rapid Thermal Processing RTP). We have shown that a significant increase in minority carrier lifetime is obtained due to this external gettering treatment. The different contributions to this enhancement are discussed. All characteristic zones of the solar cells performed on the Sitix material show an important improvement of the spectral response and consequently the diffusion length deduced from the internal quantum efficiency measurements.
