FIELD TRIAL OF A SUBUNIT VACCINE AGAINST CLASSICAL SWINE FEVER IN MEXICO

In Jalisco State, where Classical Swine Fever virus had been eradicated, virus was re-introduced in 1998, and new outbreaks of the disease appeared. Official regulations prevented the use of an attenuated alive virus vaccine, so the Animal Health Authorities decided to utilise a subunit vaccine to halt the spread of the disease. This vaccine had not been tested under field conditions. The aim of this paper is to describe the challenge experiments and the field experience of the use of a subunit vaccine in one area of Jalisco State in which there were outbreaks of CSF at that time.
