Elimination of mange has been used extensively in Danish pig herds either by restocking to specific pathogen free (SPF) herds or by implementing a medical elimination programme. These programmes were developed in the 1980's (1, 2). All pigs within a herd were injected twice with a 14 days interval with ivermectin (Ivomec~(R) Inj.). This protocol was used to cover the average length of the life cycle of the mite, 12 to 15 days. Published data indicate, that doramectin (Dectomax~(R) Swine) has a duration of activity of up to 18 days versus 9 days for ivermectin (3). So, it was the aim of these studies to see if a single injection of doramectin to all pigs on the same day would eliminate mange from 2 naturally infested swine herds.
