A numerical method for the simulation of non-linear water waves has been developed and applied to predict the wave diffraction and wave forces on floating offshore structures. The algorithm is based on a time-marching scheme to integrate the free surface boundary condition and the Boundary Element Method (BEM) to solve the potential flow problem in each time step. The location of the free-surface is determined by using the Vertical Displacement approach. The method is applied to predict the wave forces on vertical cylinders. Comparison of the numerical results with those obtained from a second-order diffraction code shows fair agreement between the two methods.
